Bubi del Norte

Cayo Bubi del Norte (also known as Cayo Bubie del Norte) is an island in the Caribbean Sea that administratively belongs to the Francisco de Miranda Insular Territory within the Federal Dependencies of Venezuela.

Geography

Geographically, it is part of the Bubis or Bobos cays group (also known as *Los Tres Bobos Blancos*) located east of the Los Roques Archipelago in the Lesser Antilles. It is a protected territory classified as an integral protection area (PI) within the Los Roques Archipelago National Park.

While its western facade is dominated by sandy shallows with a gradual transition, the eastern coast exhibits small stretches of exposed white sand beaches and borders abruptly with a deep marine channel, recognizable by the chromatic shift towards ultramarine blue in the maritime environment.

History

During the colonial era, the island was linked to the Captaincy General of Venezuela. After gaining independence from Spain, it became part of the Colón Territory. From 1938 onward, its management was assigned to the Federal Dependencies, and between 1990 and 2011, it was administered by the Single Area Authority of Los Roques (*Autoridad Única de Área de Los Roques*).

In 1972, it was included within the protected area known as Los Roques Archipelago National Park. Finally, in 2011, it was incorporated into the Francisco de Miranda Insular Territory, established by a decree with the status of an Organic Law.
