Brian Hirsch
Brian Hirsch (born in 1973) is a New York-based venture capitalist (ACTIVE since 1997). Hirsch writes a blog called New York VC and is the co-founder of Greenhill SAVP, an early stage ($102 million in capital under management), New York City based venture capital firm. Greenhill SAVP was formed in early 2006 when Silicon Alley Venture Partners combined resources with investment bank Greenhill & Co. (NYSE: GHL). Silicon Alley Venture Partners was formed in 1998 and has been one of the most active and long-standing early stage venture funds based in New York City. Greenhill SAVP and its predecessor fund has been an early investor in a number of New York based companies including LivePerson (NASDAQ: LPSN), UGO Networks (acquired by Hearst for $100 million in July 2007), Medidata Solutions (filed for an IPO in early 2009), YellowJacket Software (acquired by IntercontinentalExchange (NYSE:ICE) in February 2008), GameTrust (acquired by RealNetworks in September 2007), Pontiflex, Critical Mention, Partsearch Technologies (owner of PartStore.com), Knovel and Flat World Knowledge.
Hirsch was previously a Principal at Sterling Partners and a Vice President with ABN AMRO Private Equity. At those firms he was involved as an early investor in several notable investments such as OpenWave Systems (NASDAQ: OPWV) and KnowledgeStorm (acquired by TechTarget (NASDAQ:TTGT).
Hirsch has a Bachelors degree in Economics and American Studies from Brandeis University. He is married and lives in New York City.
