Life
Brett Huffman was born on November 25, 1973 to Marlanna and Randall Huffman in the heart of Covington, Kentucky (located 10 minutes south of Cincinnati, Ohio). Six years later, his mother Marlanna died and he was left to form his conception of the world around a theme of loss, poverty and struggle from a very young age.
Brett graduated from Holmes High School in 1993 and entered Northern Kentucky University seeking a Bachelor of Science in Biology. At Northern Kentucky University, Brett found several influences that would shape the majority of his young adult life. One of his earliest mentors was an avian biologist who introduced him to the Cincinnati Zoo.
In 1995, Brett Huffman began volunteering at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. In 1996, after a frustrating series of events that led to financial struggles, Brett switched his degree to a B.S. in Psychology and was hired as a part time zoologist by the Cincinnati Zoo in the Bird House. By 1997, only a year later, Brett was hired as a full time zoologist in the Children's Zoo at the Cincinnati Zoo.
Brett Huffman spent the next ten years working in various departments at the Cincinnati Zoo. These departments include the Cincinnati Zoo Veldt and the Bird House. Brett's final years at the Cincinnati Zoo were spent in the Bird House, one of his most favorite departments.
In 2007, Brett married an ACTIVE duty United State Air Force Officer and left the Cincinnati Zoo. Over the next two years, he became a full-time writer focusing his efforts on fantasy and science fiction.
