Brandfolder was founded in 2012. The company went through TechStars Boulder in 2013. In 2015, Brandfolder raised $2 million in new funding from White Cedar Enterprises, bringing the total amount of capital raised to $3 million from additional investors: TechStars, David Hose, Mike Kearns, Anthony Soohoo, and Patrick Keane.
The initial idea for Brandfolder was to craft a single directory where any business could grab any company's logo, but in early 2014 Brandfolder evolved into the Digital Asset Management space.

Brandfolder is a cloud-based Digital Asset Management platform that allows companies to manage their digital assets — such as logos, fonts, colors, bios and more, which are typically stored in various places — in one location, offering features such as embedding and public or secure sharing.
Brandfolder currently houses more than 250,000 brand assets for companies worldwide, including the Denver Broncos, Great Divide Brewery, HealthOne, MapQuest and the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
