Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster
The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster (BGCL), located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, is a non-profit youth organization that serves as a successful arm of its parent organization, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. There are four Clubhouses located in the county. Jack Walker Clubhouse, Sherman & Kathryn Hill Clubhouse, and the Steinman Clubhouse are located in Lancaster City; the Columbia Clubhouse is located in Columbia Borough.
History
The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster was originally founded as the Boys Club of Lancaster, on June 9, 1939. The purpose was: "To promote the physical, mental, and moral well-being of boys, Providing such means of education, recreation and guidance as to the judgement of the directors may seem likely to achieve the desired ends." The first director of the Club was Sherman Hill. He was supported by his wife, Kathryn Hill.
In 1975, the Boys Club charter was changed to include a Girls Club and programs for girls. An addition was built to the Steinman Clubhouse which was called the Girls Club; the front of the building had lettering which identified it as the Boys Club.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster has four clubhouses. Three are located in Lancaster City: Sherman & Kathryn Hill Clubhouse, Jack Walker Clubhouse, and Steinman Clubhouse. The Columbia Cluhouse is located in the Columbia Borough.

Programs and services
The Boys & Girls Club currently provides a continuum of services ranging from Club membership for Core Programs, to Residential Care and treatment for adolescents.
The Club's mission today is to help youth develop into productive and responsible adults through daily neighborhood-based activities and services. The Club prioritizes services to at-risk youth and families. It has expanded to meet the needs of youth countywide by offering a broad variety of skills-enhancing programs and services.
Membership is well over 12,000 youth and their families.
