Blogads
Blogads is the ad network that represents leading independent blogs including DailyKos, PerezHilton, Cuteoverload, Dlisted, GoFugYourself, Atrios, TalkingPointsMemo, Americablog, CrooksandLiars, FiredogLake, PoliticalWire, and Outsidethebeltway.
Launched in August 2002, Blogads.com pioneered advertising in social media before the launch of MySpace, Youtube and Facebook.
After an initial surge during the 2004 elections, BusinessWeek suggested that Blogads' business had crested. "Can the blog business survive without a Presidential election and gaffes by mainstream media firing up the Internet masses?" In the 2008 presidential election cycle, Blogads continues to attract attention from candidates
Advertising on blogs has grown as advertisers perceive blogs as "setting the agenda for the agenda setters. In the 21st century, the buzz is in the blogosphere."
"Blogads has been perhaps the single most important component to the rise of the liberal blogosphere," said Markos Moulitsas, proprieter of DailyKos.com.
Blogads.com is based in Carrboro, North Carolina and was founded in 2002 by Pressflex LLC.
Blogads' logo, which resulted from a contest open to bloggers and their readers in September 2005, was an early example of "consumer generated advertising."
Acceptance into Blogads as blogger/seller requires an invitation from a blogger currently selling Blogads. Advertising does not require an invitation.
