Barker/DZP is a full-service advertising and interactive agency based in the Soho area of New York City. Work includes Brand Identity and Positioning, Integrated Trade and Consumer Advertising, Digital Strategy, Interactive Development, Digital Media, Social Media, in-house Broadcast Production and Sports & Entertainment Marketing.

History

Founded as DZP Marketing Communications, Inc. in 2003 by John Barker (Entrepreneur and American advertising executive), the agency first specialized in strategy, Creative development, and motion graphics design and production for marketers in the entertainment industry. In 2005, the firm was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s “HOT 100” list of new small businesses in America. Key client acquisitions in the early years included Atkins Nutritionals, Inc., eDiets.com and Hastens luxury beds of Sweden. In 2008, the company was renamed Barker/DZP. More recent client acquisitions include Procter and Gamble’s People’s Choice Awards and peopleschoice.com (2008), AETN’s History Channel (2008), IDB Bank of NY (2009), Conjure Cognac (2009)), Phoenix Capital (2010), NYU Stern School of Business (2010), CMT (2010) and BEST (2010)

Key Personnel

John Barker – President & Chief Idea Officer

Prior to founding Barker/DZP, John Barker (Entrepreneur and American advertising executive) worked as a senior executive with Grey Advertising, now a division of WPP. Previously, he had been Director of Advertising at Sony Music Entertainment, Inc. He began his career as a copywriter at Grey Entertainment where he helped launch and market television series such as Roseanne, thirtysomething, NYPD Blue and Twin Peaks for the ABC network. He is a graduate of Yale University, where he was the recipient of several writing awards, including a 1984 Academy of American Poets Prize.

Paul Sewards – Managing Director / Strategy Director

Paul Sewards joined Barker/DZP team in Spring 2009 as the Managing and Strategy Director. Originally from Australia, he came to New York in 2002 as Vice President, Managing Director at BBDO Worldwide, where he ran BBDO Proximity in the USA and managed work for Pizza Hut, Financial Times, British Telecom, AOL and Office Depot. He previously was at BBDO Proximity in London, where he spent two years as a Board Director handling clients such as Financial Times, FT.com, Barclaycard and the Cannes Lions. Most recently Paul was SVP at Publicis Digitas where we led the Samsung Global Digital Account. Prior to Digitas, Paul was Managing Director at Big Spaceship, the awarded digital creative agency in Brooklyn New York. Paul is a regular speaker and contributor to industry strategy events and publications and digital strategy keynote presenter.

Sandi Harari – Creative Director

In 2006, Sandi Harari joined Barker/DZP as the Creative Director. Prior to joining the team, Sandi headed up her own design boutique for 3 years where she worked for variety of clients and brands such as: Atlantic Records, Pantene, Clairol, Atlantic Records, Lions Gate Films, A&E, Viacom etc. Before heading off on her own, Sandi was a Senior Art Director at Grey Entertainment where she oversaw creative work for W Hotels, Bravo, Food Network, Uproar.com, Worth and the NYC Dept. of Sanitation. She also previously held positions at the pharma agency, NCI advertising, as well as Burston Marsteller where her main accounts were Unilever and Citibank.
