Auts (video game)
Auts was the first spaceship shooter game set in differing caves. The game was designed to be played with 2-4 players who would fly around a cave with spaceships shaped like the letter V. The game was developed by KUDOS in 1995 for MS-DOS and featured a number of weapons ranging from bombs to dirt cannons and cloaking-devices. In the first series Auts featured only four maps and even though players criticized the amount of maps, it was commonly agreed upon that the quality of them was exceptional. Later more maps were introduced by KUDOS themselves and also community map designers who shared their maps through internet. This was especially a noticeable feat, since the game didn't include any manuals or tools for creating maps. The game also featured sounds, although current PC's could hardly play them for the lack of memory capacity in those times. The game was marked as software, which you could register through the developer for full-version.
Gameplay
It was possible to command the spaceships through joysticks or with keyboard. Problems arose when multiple player started using the same keyboard, usually pressing 3 buttons each at the same time, forcing some of the players flying to walls because of the keyboard lock.
Maps
The Game featured at first 4 maps including a Lego-land, Volcanic ashes, Normal cave and a Frozen wastes-type with lakes. The first maps were introduced by KUDOS with the initial release of the game. Afterwards they added more maps and included maps created by community.
