Aretha Henry
Aretha Lafayette Henry (born August 1, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter born in Jackson, Mississippi.
Career
Henry released her debut album, Beautiful, on June 26, 2010. The album was followed, in 2011, by a compilation album titled The Best of Aretha Henry-Jones. It included singles Magic and In My Own World along with fan favorites from her debut album. On August 1, 2012, she released her sophomore album Enchanted.
Using various resources including social media networks Twitter and SoundCloud, she has built a strong online presence. Aretha Henry is most known for her singles Magic and Captive which became very popular without the push of a major record label. In October 2012, Captive peaked at #23 on the Top 40 Urban/Hip-hop/Latin Charts.
She re-released her debut album, Beautiful, on April 15, 2013. In May 2013, the album appeared at #5 on Amazon's List of Hot New Releases.
Stars from the Beautiful album has appeared on both the Top 50 Crossover and Top 50 Indie Urban/Hip-hop/Latin charts numerous times. On April 28, 2014, she released the first single from her third studio album Superhuman titled Masterpiece. Her third studio album, Superhuman, was released on September 18, 2014.
Early life
Aretha Henry was raised in Camden Mississippi. She has two sisters of which she is the middle child. Her younger years were spent singing in church and in school choirs. She graduated from Velma Jackson High School and later studied Fashion Merchandising at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Personal life
She has two children, Ariel and Sivon. On February 25, 2011, she married engineer/producer Kevin "KJ" Jones.
