Ambedkar Polytechnic
Ambedkar Polytechnic () is a Government Engineering College Located in Shakarpur, Delhi, India. It was established in 1986 under Department Of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), Government of Delhi. The institute is affiliated with the Board of Technical Education, Delhi and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
It was named after B. R. Ambedkar, a renowned freedom fighter was awarded the Bharat Ratna, and an able administrator. This Polytechnic flaunts its name in the international arena by being the biggest Polytechnic in Asia. The polytechnic also maintains relations with accreditations bodies like Indian Society for Technical Education.
Ambedkar Polytechnic offering Full-time Diploma in Engineering in Instrumentation & Control, Digital Electronics, Medical Electronics, Computer Engineering and Information Technology Engineering that cater to the changing needs of industry, business and community at large using need based curricular delivered in a dynamic learning environment. The institute has been contributing to train the youngsters in technical job-oriented courses.
Till 2005 Mechanical Engineering was also a part of the courses studied at Ambedkar Polytechnic. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Construction Engineering which was offered by this Polytechnic has now been shifted to Aryabhat Polytechnic and Pusa Polytechnic respectively.
General information
The main building of the polytechnic consists of six blocks, viz. Block A, B, C, D, E and F, which are spread over an area of 3.14 hectares. It has lecture theatres, classrooms, workshops, laboratories, college bus facilities to students and staff and student-related facilities, such as common room, canteen, library facilities, a sports room for recreational activities, LRUC Labs, DELNET facility and playgrounds. Student bus passes are available for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
The college building is four stories. The campus has residential complex comprising 15 flats of Type IV and 15 flats of Type I.
The campus is completely self-reliant and built up as per the norms prescribed by All India Council for Technical Education for conducting diploma/post-diploma programmes with provision for further expansion and up-gradation.
Location
Ambedkar Polytechnic is located in the district of Shakarpur in far North East Delhi behind the Mother Dairy Plant at a distance of AbOUT ½ km from Pandav Nagar, Delhi.
A number of buses plied by Delhi Transport Corporation connection the different parts of the city. The institute is situated near V3S Mall and Nirman Vihar metro station (Blue Line) is roughly 10–12 minutes from the college.
Anand Vihar Terminal railway station is the nearest railway station is roughly 20–25 minutes from the college.
Indira Gandhi International Airport is the nearest airport at a distance of about 30 km from the campus. The DTC IGI Airport AC Bus Service is connected directly from Pandav Nagar to the airport at a fare of Rs. 25.
Admission procedure
The admissions to the different courses students must appear for a Common Entrance Test conducted by the Board of Technical Education, Delhi in May/June every year after qualifying this Exam students are selected through counseling for Ambedkar Polytechnic, Delhi as per the norms laid down by the Government of NCT of Delhi under Directorate of Training and Technical Education.
Science, Mathematics & English are compulsory and the candidate should have passing marks in each of these three subjects without considering grace marks.
Reservations are made for candidates belonging to Reserved Castes, physically handicapped & wards under Ministry of Defence (India).
The minimum eligibility to qualify for the Common Entrance Test is 60% for General category and 55% for the Reserved categories in All India Secondary School Examination.
Courses offered
Ambedkar Polytechnic offers only high-tech and specialised courses in advanced and emerging areas of technology. In order to provide horizontal flexibility and vertical mobility besides offering flexibility to the students to work at individual space, Multi-Point Entry and Credit System Scheme has been introduced in the disciplines of Electronics Engineering with specialisation in Digital Electronics and Microprocessor System Design & Medical Electronics and Instrumentation & Control Engineering. Students under MPEC Scheme students with entry qualification of 10+2 can even complete Diploma in two & half years.

Most professors in this college are Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) passed and probably is one of the criteria to qualify for teaching in this college.
There are visiting faculties from Delhi Technological University (DTU), and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).
Most of the communication takes place in Hindi.
Library
The library is air conditioned housed in a hall of about 300 square metre. The library holds about 8000 books, and more than 20 journals and magazines. DELNET facility is available.
Learning Resource Centre: LRUC has been established to supplement curriculum based teaching with latest and emerging trends in technology.
Community Polytechnic: in 1998, this polytechnic was selected for implementation of Community Polytechnic Acheme under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India), Govt. of India.

The SPIC MACAY (Society For Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth) college seeks to conserve and promote the Indian cultural tapestry among youth by focusing on the classical arts with their legends, rituals, mythology and Philosophy.
Clubs
- The Photography Club conducts workshops and training sessions in photography at various Locations.Photographs participants do events during festivals.
- The Red ribbon Club (RRC) established in 2009, Sessions on [...] Addiction, Life skill Development into youths to live better and healthier life,quizzes and the presentation on awareness of AIDS,Importance of blood donation.RRC has now expanded to various colleges and corporates around NCR region.
- The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) is an entrepreneurial group at Ambedkar Polytechnic which aims to spread the spirit of entrepreneurship on campus.
- The Hindi Drama Club perform stage and street plays during the semester and student festivals.
- The Music and Dance Club performs on "music nights" at fashion shows, cultural events.
- Sports club of Ambedkar Polytechnic conduct annual competition at the nearby East Vinod Nagar Sports complex,Chhatrasal Stadium.It also invites other colleges throughout Delhi to participate in events including hockey, cricket, basketball, football, volleyball,track and field, badminton, tennis, table tennis, squash and weightlifting.
Industry interaction
There are seminars held in the college auditorium though not on a large scale. Industry interactions are pretty rare. Students rarely visit any company thus are unaware of how the company runs. Overall exposure is definitely very less and the college should take immediate steps to improve the current scenario.
Campus life
As the college is affiliated to Board of Technical Education, Delhi certainly major students are from the main city of Delhi. Boys to girls ratio is pretty much equal though the former are a few more. The college has recreational facilities like table tennis, carom chess, Electronics Club and a gymkhana.
Future leadership
"Leaders are made, they are not born". In a country like India, where a basic graduation degree is mandatory to get a decent job, it is mandatory for working students to complete graduation for future leadership. Some Reputed institutions are providing Part-time Technical graduation:-

- Medical Electronics students complete their graduation in BSc Medical Imaging Technology (B.Sc MIT), BSc Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc MLT) from Sikkim Manipal University.
The demand of technical managers has increased by 63% in the last two years and lately manufacturing, service industries are looking into investing seriously on technical managers, increasing the demand for such professionals and employee salary demand is on the rise.
