Ali Jasiqi

Ali D. Jasiqi (born 1937) is a Kosovan writer. He was born in Jasiq near Junik and attended schools in Junik and Dečani, Đakovica, and finished it in Pristina. He graduated from the Philological Faculty in Albanian Language and Literature at the University of Pristina.

Jasiqi worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper Rilindja, as chief editor for culture, art and literature on the magazine Fjala, and editor in chief of the literary magazine Jeta e re. He was the general secretary and director of the Writers Association of Kosovo.

He started writing as a student, first writing poetry and stories before moving into literary criticism. He published his first poetry in Zani i rinis in 1957. He collected an anthology of stories Ago Jakupi dhe rrëfime të tjera from Mitrush Kutelit, published by Enti i Teksteve dhe Mjeteve Mësimore të Kosovës in 1967, stories Talush Efendia from Zekeria Rexhës (writing under the penname Ramë Zuka) in Rilindja in 1973, a poetry anthology for children Lulet e para by Fahredin Gunges and Bedri Hyses, and prepared many studies in Jeta e re, alone or with co-authors. He worked on all the Albanian-language literary magazines published former Yugoslavia.

He continues to write for the print and electronic media in Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and elsewhere. He lives in the Dardania neighbourhood of Pristina with his wife Hasbije Jasiqi, son and daughter-in-law.

Other works

He worked on a television drama ("Shtenja në ajër") that was broadcast in former Yugoslavia and RTP and three radio dramas. His work has been translated into Romanian, Serbo-Croat and Hungarian.
