Alec Hartman

Alec Hartman is an American entrepreneur and businessman. He is the co-founder of DigitalOcean and TechDay.

Early life

Alec was born on February 6, 1986. He graduated from Suncoast High School's International Baccalaureate Program in 2003. Afterwards, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Emory University, where he majored in Political Science and Philosophy. After completing his studies, he took a career move towards software development.

Career

Alec co-founded DigitalOcean in 2011 which is a cloud computing startup based in New York City. DigitalOcean is a TechStars alumni company which raised $300M in different venture financing rounds.

He also co-founded TechDay, the largest startup event series, in 2012. Each year, TechDay hosts more than 50,000 people from 6 continents at their events.

In 2017, Alec ran in the Democratic primary for the District 4 seat on the New York City Council.

Philanthropy

Alec is also a mentor for TechStars, Startup Bootcamp, MassChallenge and TechStars Berlin.

Advisory work

Alec's experience also includes service as a member of the Bermuda Tourism Advisory, as well as the Estonian governor's e-Residency Advisory Group for the Estonian Government.
