History
Acentech was incorporated directly from a division of its founding company, Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) in 1989. BBN itself was founded in 1948, by Leo Beranek and Richard Bolt, two MIT professors, and a former student, Robert Newman. For its work in acoustics, BBN won the American Institute of Architects Institute of Honor Award in 1984, and Acentech was formed several years later.
Acentech expanded in 2005 with the addition of its RH Lyon Division, focusing on product noise consulting, product sound quality product, and analytic modeling and simulation. In 2009 the company launched Acentech Studio A, a specialized group of consultants including prominent acoustician Christopher Jaffe, providing acoustics, audiovisual systems, and vibration for the performing arts .
