2010 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
The 2010 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will be held April 16-18, once again at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California. The official lineup was announced January 19, 2010. The Who was originally supposed to headline but dropped out because Pete Townshend felt he "had to continue to write." Grace Jones was announced to play on Friday, but was removed from the lineup poster in February. 2010 is the first year that no single day tickets will be sold.

Single Day Ticket Controversy
2010 was the first year in Coachella history that festival promoters opted against making single day tickets available, forcing any attendees to purchase three day passes. Goldenvoice leader Paul Tollett stated the reason for this change was to enhance the experience for those who choose to attend all three days, citing lack of hotel rooms in the Indio area and increased traffic congestion for those coming down for just one day as other reasons. "We’re really trying to make it great for the fan," Tollett said. "We understand it will affect some people who want to go for one day, but we have to protect the three-day people. It was a complex decision. We put some thought into it, and we’re trying our best to make it a good experience." Tollett also declared that since 2007, over 80% of Coachella attendees have purchased three day passes.
After being outraged by the recent change, Brian Lozano, a San Diego native began an online petition group through Facebook to protest the recent change, stating "My heart was broken, I saw that, and I thought, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going to go.’ I’m not really able to make it Friday or Saturday, and I was only looking forward to going on Sunday. So what can I do?"
