THIRTEEN HORSES AS A SYMBOL
Thirteen horses is an allusion to the foundation of human kind. Recently, it has been observed that the symbolism of the thirteen horses is associated with a common thread which ties together the cultural and religious experiences of the global population. It has been speculated by some that this symbolism holds the key to balance within the individual and societal experience. Some have even attested to the transformative nature that the symbol holds for their life.
Thirteen horses as a symbol has only recently reappeared in public awareness. It is an ancient Viking symbol, a reference to it is to be found in Michael Crichton's "The 13th Warrior".
NOTE: The artist community has long been aware of the power embodied by the Thirteen Horses. ""Thirteen Horses - The Journey" is about my journey of self discovery; taking the leap of becoming a full-time artist after decades of working as an art educator and museum administrator. I have used horses in my art work to represent both life's journey and as a metaphorical representation of women in general. They embody for me great beauty and strength, qualities we as women, covet for ourselves. In "Thirteen Horses," I explore the range of emotions encountered on a quest for a new life and an artistic voice. The 13 horses speak for me." Cite:http://www.harmonyfineart.com/id162.html. THIRTEEN
The number thirteen (13) has historically be the subject of attention throughout a majority of cultures. For example, in Norse mythology the god Loki became the thirteenth attendee of an honorary banquet which was being held in Valhalla for Baldur. In this role as the thirteenth, and uninvited, attendee Loki became pivotal in the fate of Baldur. Similarly, the last supper was attended by twelve disciples and Christ. As such, the symbolic meaning of Christ as the thirteenth attendee can be clearly seen. In Greek mythology, Zeus is the thirteenth of the gods. In examining the Egyptian pantheon one quickly sees that thirteen becomes pivotal in the cycle of life when recounting that Osiris was cut into fourteen pieces, of which only thirteen were recovered. Simply stated, a rigorous survey of recorded and oral history reveals the number thirteen to commonly possesses the qualities of:
Realization
Renaissance
Resurrection
Lifecycle
Knowledge
Illumination
Totality
Power
HORSE
Horses are often depicted a powerful animal symbol. For example, the Horseman's Word was considered to have access to certain powers through association with horses. In addition, in Nordic mythology that Loki, the thirteenth banquet attendee, takes the form of a female horse and becomes the mother of Odin's eight-legged horse

POWERS COURT
Powers Court is an American Metal trio hailing from St. Louis, MO, USA. After one Self-Titled/Self-Financed album released in 1996, the band was immediately signed to Audioglobe-SRL, Dragonheart Records of Florence, Italy. Their 2nd CD, Nine Kinds of Hell was released on this label in 2001 along with THE RED MIST OF ENDENMORE in 2008
Their style incorporates American Power Metal ala Iced Earth, Nevermore and Manilla Road, but the songwriting is more unique and varied. They incorporate styles of Power, Progressive, Thrash, Epic and traditional Metal. Vocalist/guitarist Danie Powers is the unique feature here -- she possesses a vocal range of over four octaves and she uses that range quite effectively. Everything from lower-pitched growls to high-pitched screams to soprano, a powerful midrange reminiscent of Mark Shelton, Bruce Dickinson, Dio and Rob Halford.
As for the music it has some roots in 80's Metal, but it is quite different and unique incorporating other elements into their compositions such as Classical, Goth, Classic Rock and various instruments such as Flamenco guitar, and Elizabethan and Medieval lute. There's a bit of MANILLA ROAD, a shade of KING DIAMOND, maybe a slice of IRON MAIDEN, all melded together as only Powers Court can do. This is really a fine band, highly recommended.
Current Members:
DANIE POWERS - Vocals, Guitars, Mandolin
STEVE MURRAY - Bass
DANIEL NYDICK - Drums
Former Members:
RICK KRAMER - Drums
MIKE EVANS - Drums
JOHN HARDIN - Drums
