The Gnophkehs are a fictional race in the Cthulhu Mythos. They are humanoid cannibals described as being covered in coarse, matted hair with large protruding ears and proboscidean noses. They originally lived in Hyperborea and worshiped the Great Old One Rhan-Tegoth. But Rhan-Tegoth eventually forgot them when he entered a stone-like hibernation state. They were invaded and driven to the land of Lomar by the Tsathoggua-worshipping Voormis.
The papyrus reputedly preserved the darkest secrets of the occult wisdom of the detested Gnophkehs, which name denoted the repulsively hirsute cannibals whom Yhemog's ancestors had driven into exile in the arctic barrens. This scroll contained, in fact, the most arcane and potent ceremonials whereby the Gnophkehs had worshipped their atrocious divinity, who was no less than an avatar of the cosmic obscenity Rhan-Tegoth, and was attributed to Morloc himself, the Grand Shaman.
— Lin Carter and Clark Ashton Smith, "The Scroll of Morloc"
Later on they were again invaded by humans from Zobna and driven even further up north. It was there that Ithaqua, the wind-walker, appeared, to whom the Gnophkhehs transferred their allegiance. They started to harass the Voormis again as they grew in power, contributing to the demise of the Voormis civilization.
The Gnophkehs in Lomar were eventually destroyed, along with the remnants of the Voormis in Hyperborea and the human civilization in Zobna,
when Ithaqua and brought about the Ice Age.
Gnoph-keh
Often confused with the humanoid Gnophkehs, the Gnoph-keh (note the hyphen) refers to a species of non-humans which dwell in Hyperborea (present-day Greenland). They are violent, hairy, demonic entities with an affinity for cold, ice, and snow. Artwork portrays them as similar to very large six-legged polar bears, with a narwhal-like horn. Their existence is entwined with the humanoid Gnophkehs who worshiped them as totemic mediators with Ithaqua. They might also be further linked with Rhan-Tegoth and .

The Kyi-Leo (pronounced "ki" as in "kite") is a small yet sturdy rare dog breed originating from the crossing of a Maltese and a Lhasa Apso. It is also known as a Maltese Lion dog, and is often confused with the Lhasa Apso-Maltese hybrids or Lhatese. While the Kyi-Leo is officially classified as a particular breed or brand, the Lhatese remains a hybrid to cover mixes of the two other breeds.
History
It was first introduced in the 1950s in the San Francisco Bay area by the accidental crossing of a Maltese and a Lhasa Apso, which caught the attention of several individuals. The most notable was Mrs. Harriet Linn, who acquired several of these dogs in 1965 and later acquired several more from the San Jose kennel in 1969; from then on she began to seriously breed them. In 1972 there was enough interest among owners and breeders to come together and formally recognize this breed. It was at this meeting that they formally decided on calling it a Kyi-Leo. The name comes from the Tibetan and Latin languages. “Kyi” is the Tibetan word for dog; this acknowledges the Lhasa Apso breed which first came from Tibet. “Leo” is the Latin word for Lion; this acknowledges the Maltese which is also known as the “Maltese Lion dog”. Since then the Kyi-Leo breed has slowly spread throughout the United States, and has recently become accepted by the American Rare Breed Association as a legitimate breed.
Description
Appearance
The Kyi-Leo reaches 8-12 inches in height and 9-14 pounds in weight. It has a long silky coat, most commonly black and white but sometimes gold and white, which tends to grow to long lengths (never quite reaching past the floor) if tended properly. Its hair also grows on its face and tail. It has small yet delicate legs that are prone to damage if dropped, but the Kyi-Leo can be very agile and quick. The Kyi-Leo has notable similarities, in body size, shape, and hair, to the Shih Tzu dog breed though the eyes are more human set rather than bulging and they do not have the short-snout face.
Temperament
The Kyi-Leo is generally calm, obedient, quiet, and difficult to provoke. It is usually very playful and active around trusted humans or animals, but tends to stay cautious and alert around strangers. Its acute hearing makes it a decent watchdog. It ideally lives in indoor settings and can be very patient when left alone for long hours at a time.
Health
* Because of its small size, the Kyi-Leo has delicate legs and a delicate spine. A slipped patella or back pains, due to a lot of jumping or aggressive handling, are notable among Kyi-Leos.
* Because of its thick hair and Tibetan ancestry, the Kyi-Leo adapts best to colder climates.
* Food intake is also an issue, as the Kyi-Leo can easily become overweight due to its small frame.
* The intake of human food, especially meat, is generally discouraged for the Kyi-Leo since its stomach cannot easily handle it. Kyi-Leos have been prone to pancreatitis, noticeable by excessive vomiting and a tender abdomen, which greatly limits the types of food they can eat. Most generic dog-food with a good source of protein is the best choice for Kyi-Leos.
* The average lifespan of a Kyi-Leo is 13 to 15 years.
Notable dogs
* American singer Mariah Carey owns two Kyi-Leo dogs that were given to her as puppies in Tokyo, Japan, during her Butterfly World Tour. They currently reside in Brooklyn, New York City.

In the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, Men of Twilight was a term used by the Númenóreans for Men of Middle-earth who were related to the Edain, the ancestors of the Númenóreans themselves. This contrasts with the Gondorians, "Men of Light," and the Haradrim and Easterlings, "Men of Darkness."
In The Two Towers, Chapter 5, The Window on the West, the Men of Twilight are also called Middle Men: "We are become Middle Men, of the Twilight, but with memory of other things."
When the Númenóreans returned to the coasts of Middle-earth in the Second Age, they found a people who spoke languages which were distantly related to the Númenórean tongue, Adûnaic. Númenórean scholars declared that this was because these Men were descendants of the fathers of the Edain, the Atanatári, who had not crossed the Ered Luin and entered Beleriand during the First Age. The Númenóreans set up friendly relations with them, and declared them to be Middle Men, as opposed to the High Men (the Edain) or the Men of the Shadow, meaning those hostile to Númenor or in the service of Sauron.
After the founding of the Realms in Exile, Arnor and Gondor, many Men of Twilight became subjects of the Dúnedain, and eventually intermarried with them until they became one people.
The Northmen of Rhovanion were counted as Men of Twilight, as were most people living in Eriador. During the Third Age the term Middle Men was still applied to the Men of Bree, and the remaining Northmen, such as the Men of Dale and Esgaroth the Lake-town, and of course the Rohirrim. King Valacar of Gondor became so friendly with the Middle Men of Rhovanion that he married Vidumavi, a princess of the Northmen, and his son Eldacar was of mixed blood. This led to the disastrous Kinstrife of Gondor.
Most Middle Men had kinship with the Houses of Bëor or Marach. There were also Men in Middle-earth related to the Second House, the Haladin — Men of Enedwaith and Minhiriath, later to be known as the Dunlendings. But because they spoke a language that was unknown to the Númenóreans they were not at first recognised as Middle Men. Hostility developed between these Middle Men and the Númenóreans, which would endure until the end of the Third Age.
