Ziptask is a provider of outsourced digital office work services to consumers and enterprise customers. It is a global online outsourcing platform that allows people to hire freelancers for day-to-day digital work such as word processing, spreadsheets, software, website design, graphic design and other professional services. The company is the only platform that functions as an intermediary by assessing jobs, directing them to the most qualified freelancers, and quality checking the results. The platform allows users to manage their digital work from the desktop or to utilize a smart phone application to submit and manage projects. The company integrates with Dropbox and Evernote, to allow users to transfer files and submit new jobs from their mobile devices. Ziptask also allows users to pay freelancers by the minute and manages the interactions between the contractor and freelancer, taking out the task of searching for freelancers, interviewing them, and negotiating rates for work to be performed. History Ziptask was founded in 2010 by Shawn Livermore. Livermore is the author of three technical books and has been a consultant on enterprise software development for numerous Fortune 500 corporations. The company officially released a beta version of the product in November of 2011, and has upgraded its service offering since. Livermore invested over $130,000 of his own money to launch the company. Business model Ziptask uses proprietary software to examine, assess, and outsource a task and then return a quality-checked and verified product to the customer in a pre-agreed timeframe and cost. Ziptask charges a flat, per minute rate, and earns the difference between what the client is charged, and what the freelancer is paid for the job. Ziptask works across all platforms (PC, Mac, iOS, Android) on just about any type of project, but specializes in office projects using tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photoshop, but has the capability to do other work such as HTML/web design, graphic design, programming, business documents, databases, and more. By combining human and machine intelligence Ziptask delivers timely, quality-checked work at a low cost. Ziptask focuses on this concept by allowing users to pay freelancers by the minute - because most tasks, when done by specialized, quality providers take less than an hour. Ziptask allows customers to outsource work without interviewing or selecting a specific freelancer. The vetting of freelancers is performed by Ziptask so customers only need to submit their job to Ziptask and they in turn take responsibility for the work. This model allows customers to receive a qualified freelancer to start on their project much quicker than other competing platforms. The customer also pays a lower rate, as freelancers are paid by the minute and customers see the "not to exceed" price that they will pay prior to approval. Ziptask Worker Ziptask worker is a software application operated by freelancers on the Ziptask network to monitor, receive, process, hand-over, and complete jobs. When the application is active, it interfaces with the Ziptask system and shows the contractor as “available and ready” to take on work. As a result, the jobs can flow to the contractor without them having to bid or interview them. <ref name="SmallBWeek"/>
