Zabala Vineyards is successfully family owned, and located in the heart of the Central Coast just outside Soledad, California. The vineyard has earned distinction for the limited release of wines produced each year under the Zabala Family label. Its Managing Director, J. Luis Zabala, has overseen the vineyard's thousand acres since the late eighties, and focuses his efforts on producing premium winegrapes from a cool growing region, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Syrah. The vineyard property is located in the center of the Arroyo Seco AVA and is bounded by a river of the same name which holds the distinction of being one of last few rivers in California which has not been dammed. Wines grown in this vineyard are noted for their intense fruit characteristics and remarkable texture. The region is noted for its cobbly, shallow soils and a climate marked by cool winds gusting south off the Monterey Bay. Vines grown in this area endure a long growing season and produce small clusters with intense flavor and color. In addition, the Zabala Family has considerable acreage devoted to row crops in the Salinas Valley.
