Yellow Pages on the Internet

Yellow Pages on the Internet, LLC (YPI.net) was the first company to place listings form existing print directories on the Internet in a consortium format. The company was founded in Seattle in 1995 by brothers John Richards and Peter Richards and a couple others. The Richards brothers had previously turned independent yellow pages publisher NTD Publishing, Inc. d/b/a Banana Pages into a print publisher that innovated new technologies enhancing the print yellow pages product.
YPI.net had signed many yellow pages publishers as partners when it was acquired by InfoSpace.com, Inc. in December 1996. By late 1997 the Richards brothers and others involved with YPI.net had become employees of InfoSpace and proceeded to build one of the strongest presences in the burgeoning electronic yellow pages industry.
