Arbortext

Arbortext produces a family of dynamic publishing software solutions.
These include XML-based authoring, content management, automated publishing, and information delivery technologies which enable creation, management, and delivery for various audiences and media. The company was founded in 1989 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As of July 19, 2005, Arbortext operates as part of Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC)
History
The first Arbortext Editor was released in 1991 under the name SGML
Editor, making it one of the first SGML based editing tools. As the
editor has been developed it has also been known as Adept Editor and
Epic Editor. It is now known as simply Arbortext Editor.
In 2004, Arbortext Inc. purchased the UK based Advent Publishing
Systems, Ltd. Creators of the Advent 3B2 publishing software. The 3B2
product formed the basis of what is now known as the Arbortext Advanced
Print Publisher.
In July 2005 Arbortext, Inc. was acquired by Parametric Technology
Corporation (PTC) a publicly traded product fecycle management (PLM)
company.
In October 2006 PTC acquired the German ITEDO Software company for its
IsoDraw and IsoView technical illustration products. These have since
been integrated into the Arbortext product family.
In November 2007, PTC acquired UK-based Logistics Business Systems
(LBS) which already had a suite of solutions for delivering information
in compliance with the Aerospace and Defense industry S1000D standard,
that were fully integrated with Arbortext products.
Standards Activity
Arbortext was a charter member of the OASIS DITA committee and the
original DITA development undertaken by IBM was done using Arbortext
products.

Customer Groups and Communities
A mailing list for customers was started in 1996 under the name
ADEPTERS after Adept Editor, the then current name of the Arbortext
Editor product. This list was hosted by Arbortext and maintained and
monitored by the Arbortext staff. After the acquisition by PTC the
ownership and archive of the list was handed over to the independent
PTC/User group who still operate the list today. The group also
maintains Adepters.org, a wiki-based Arbortext code archive project.
PTC offers an Arbortext section of the PlanetPTC Community website.

In 1995 Arbortext started its annual Arbortext Users’ Group
International (AUGI) conference, in 2009 this was folded into the
larger PlanetPTC Live event, where each year a section of the
conference is devoted to Arbortext products and users.

* Arbortext Content Manager - This is a module of PTC's Windchill used to manage and control structured content
* Arbortext Styler - Works in conjunction with Arbortext Editor to create XML-based stylesheets for automated publishing
* Arbortext Publishing Engine - Filter, assemble, and publish technical content automatically
* Arbortext Advanced Print Publisher - (formerly 3B2) Automate layout design for complex technical documents
* Arbortext CSDB (Common Source Database) for S1000D - Create and manage content to support the S1000D international technical publications specification for the global Aerospace and Defense industry.
* Arbortext Learning Content Manager for S1000D - Create, assemble, manage and deploy SCORM compliant eLearning packages directly from the data modules within * Arbortext Common Source Database (CSDB) for S1000D.
* Arbortext Provisioning Manager - Create, deliver, receive and review initial provisioning data and illustrated parts catalogs to accommodate either independent provisioning projects or Aerospace and Defense specification S2000M Chapter 1 requirements.
* Arbortext Parts Catalog Manager for S1000D - Create and deliver illustrated parts data in accordance with the Aerospace and Defense specification S1000D for technical publications.
* Arbortext Publisher for S1000D - Create and publish technical documentation
* Arbortext IETP Viewer for S1000D - Deliver technical information in a browser-based environment
