Yellow light of Death (PlayStation 3) is when the Playstation 3 console is experiencing a hardware failure or has overheated. Most hardware failures happen because of the hardware being damaged or faulty. If a yellow light error message persists even after a restart, it would be necessary to seek professional help. Issues The yellow light of death is when the console has an internal problem that requires service. Sony has addressed the problem, but hasn't made much improvent in the latest model of the PS3. YLOD can be caused by overheating of the rsx and cell processors when the thermal paste dry's out and dust builds up in the PS3. A youtube video by a user called gilksy has proved a popular way for the home user to reflow the chips with a heat gun to fix the problem although a reball of the chips is advised for a long term fix. |
