The Yamaha FZ700 was a 4-stroke motorcycle made by Yamaha Motor Company only for the 1987 model year. Unlike the Yamaha FZ750, this bike had a full fairing. The motorcycle used a 697cc version of the five-valve-per-cylinder Yamaha Genesis engine. The inline four-cylinder engine had a displacement of 697cc which made it as powerful as possible without being classified a heavyweight motorcycle, thus escaping the tariff on large-displacement motorcycles that was put in place to defend Harley Davidson against imports. The model was given a favorable review in the motorcycle press. Magazine said the FZ700 trades "a little of the top for racy new street clothes and a price tag that really wails."
