Yacht bounce

Founded in late 2010 by Turntablist/Party Rocker DJ Tony Skratchere, this unique sub genre combines Soft Rock (termed "Yacht Rock" within the Yacht Bounce culture) with New Orleans' founded "Bounce" music ("NOLA Bounce"). Bounce is the combination of call and response: calls to do the latest dances with a sexually charged energy, and high energy drum programming based on Cameron Paul’s Brown Beats (Sampled from the late Derek B’s 1987 track “Rock The Beat”), The Showboys’ 1986 track “Drag Rap," and other elements that when combined is a powerful dance floor filler. In the late 1980s Bounce was strictly club music until the 1990s when artists began recording versions of the live calls and responses.
Yacht Bounce combines the described "laid back smoothness" of yacht rock with the raw energy of Bounce music. In late 2010, New Orleans area DJs began crafting Yacht Bounce tunes by mixing complete soft rock recordings with the distinct beats and rhythms of Bounce. Yacht Bounce combines the "Triggerman Break," "Brown Beats," and "Rock the Beat" as is all traditional NOLA Bounce music. Mixes can be complicated by the measure counts and breaks inherent to soft/yacht rock songs.
What started initially as an inside joke for DJs quickly spread amongst the DJ community as DJs such as Platurn (Oakland Faders, CA), DJ Jaycee (Ludacris, The Aphilliates), and others created remixes of songs never before considered dance floor friendly. By the summer of 2011 over 200 different Yacht Bounce remixes were published for online listening and download.
Yacht Bounce saw quick growth due to interviews on college radio, New Orleans metro area press, and online global community interest. Backlash occurred due to negative response from members of the Bounce music community who attacked the sub genre initially. Conflict was resolved after an understanding of Yacht Bounce's intent--recreational DJ remixing and further saturation of Bounce into more affluent demographics--was made clear.
Yacht Bounce parties are held with guests participating in maritime-themed costume.
