Xardas

Xardas is a fictional character and one of the main characters in the Piranha Bytes video game series . He also serves as the narrator in the game series.

When the nameless hero first meets Xardas, he is a necromancer who stepped down as head of the fire mages to study dark arts. He resides in a lone tower within orc-land within the penal colony on Khorinis. He aids the hero with the banishment of the Sleeper, a minion of the dark god Beliar. Xardas was initially one of the 12 mages that created the barrier around the penal colony.

In the second game, Xardas rescues the hero from the ruins of the temple of the Sleeper. Throughout the game, Xardas guides the hero to regaining and recharging the Eye of Innos, a magical artifact rendering the user able to talk with dragons. After discovering the dragons' plot, the hero travels to 'The Halls of Irdorath' and battles the undead dragon, the chosen of Beliar. After defeating the dragon, Xardas emerges, and betrays the hero by claiming the power of the dragon for himself.

In the third game, Xardas reveals his plot of ridding the world of the gods, and thus enabling orcs and humans to peacefully coexist. In order to do this, he needed to become the chosen of Beliar, thus explaining his earlier betrayal.

Xardas also appears as the main character in Gothic 3: The Beginning, a mobile adaption of the Gothic series, telling the story of Xardas' rise to power.
