World Chess Live

History and Purpose

World Chess Live (WCL) World Chess Live(WCL) was the result of an acquisition of World Chess Network (WCN) in 2007 by the Internet Chess Club (ICC) to create a family oriented, more recreational on-line Chess Site.

WCL is a member’s only subscription service. WCL offers family and chess coach, club, discounts where the owner of an primary account can affiliate the members of his/her family/group for a reduced fee as their secondary accounts making it more affordable for family and group players.

FIDE titled players (from FMs to GMs) will receive a free membership.
World Chess Live has a group on Facebook open to everyone (member or not).
Activities and services
*Games
:Illimited number of games rated or not with different Time Control
:Regular chess but also wild variants such as Chess960, Losers, CrazyHouse etc.
:Each category has its own rating.
*Tourneys
:Scheduled Tourneys are scheduled every day, with different Time Control
:Managers are also there to organize and run extra tourneys requested by members
*Events with titled players
:FIDE titled players play everyday in scheduled events against the members in Simultaneous Exhibitions, MasterChallenge or play themselves in instructional Banter Games.
:Tutorial Videos
*Special events on demand
:WCL can also host special tourneys for specific groups or Federation (USCF) or PCU Polgar Chess University
Members
*Regular members
:Also known as : the players ! They get the full benefit of the activities that WCL offers.
*Helpers
:Among the regular members, some have the willingness to do more and help the other members encountering difficulties to understand. They volunteer for that.
*Tourney managers
:Same as for the Helpers, some members apply to become managers. They are trained and can set up any tourney requested by the other members.
*Administrators
:The main difference is that they don't apply but they are chosen. Their role is to make the site runs smoothly. They are there to maintain a friendly atmosphere. WCL has a strict policy to keep away any kind of abusers, including cheating.
Software
*Dasher
:Dasher is a friendly user client designed for WCL, currently at his release 1.5.1
:The goal of the programers is to use as much as possible the navigation through menus, instead of typing commands. Young people are more used with the mouse than with the keyboard.
:Dasher is downloadable for free on the site and, since it integrates Crafty chess engine. It can be used to play off line. Crafty allows also the members to analyse their games when they are over.
*Sonia
:Sonia is a World Chess Live interface offered for members who are not able to run our full-featured Microsoft Windows interface, Dasher, either because they require or
:Sonia is a Java applet which runs under windows too.
*Bobby Junior
:Still in progress. This client will integrate a chess engine 32 bit or 64 bit Deep Junior and will have the basic features to play on WorldChessLive.
*BlitzIn
:BlitzIn is not available for WCL members. It is mentionned here because some admins can use it for technical reasons and also because the titled players have to use it whe they give Simultaneous exhibitions. It is in use n the ICC but the old system of typing commands makes it less friendly user than Dasher. Currently on its version 3.02
