Windows 8.1 Update 1 is an update that is expected to roll out for the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Operating System in April 2014. Windows 8 Update 1 will improve UI usability, reduce licensing costs and cut down on system requirements. Hardware requirements Windows 8.1 Update 1 will now support devices with 16GB of Hard Drive space and 1GB of RAM. These reduced system requirements are more aimed for lower end devices to run Windows 8.1. UI Improvements and Desktop Windows 8.1 Update 1 will add new UI improvements to Windows 8.1 such as Modern apps appearing in the taskbar, title bars on Modern apps and context menus appearing on tiles in the start screen. Windows Media Player and Windows Photo Viewer are now the default media player and image viewer, rather than Photos and Xbox Music App. There will be additionally a power button on the Start Screen but will not be visible on tablet computers and there will also be a search button as well. Update 1 will make Windows 8.1 update to the desktop automatically on non-touch devices. There will be right click desktop like context menus on the Modern tiles in the start screen. Update 1 will also add a new notification for newly installed apps in the buttom left side of the start screen. The desktop taskbar will now be able to display on top of the modern interface. Skydrive will be renamed to Onedrive in the upcoming update for Windows 8.1. Early Release Some users were able to download Update 1 early by performing a registry tweak to get the update via Windows Update. However, Microsoft later removed access to Update 1.
