William King Elementary is a school in Herring Cove, Nova Scotia and is part of the Halifax Regional School Board. There are 40 staff members at the school There are 3 Administration leaders, 15 teachers, 5 specialist teachers, 1 librarian and 17 student service staff. History William King opened in 1990. On November 30th, 1990 a time capsule was buried in the wall in the foyer and will be opened on November 30th, 2020, 30 years after the first school year. Activities Every September, William King has a "Pink Day/Anti-Bullying Day" where every student is asked to wear pink for a walk around the neighbourhood. They also have a Walk-A-Thon every September. The students get "Shines" (previously "Gotchas") for good behaviour. They are put on a wall in the foyer and a winners from each class gets a prize each month. Each May grades 4,5 and 6 try out for the only sports team at William King, Track & Field. 2 track meets are held the last week of May at Huskies Stadium (One for 4's and 5's and one for 6's) where the top 4 in each event and gender compete. The only events are * Boys/Girls Ball Throw * Boys/Girls Long Jump * Boys/Girls 100 Metres (known as sprints) * Boys/Girls 800 Metres * Boys/Girls 1600 Metres * Boys/Girls 4 X 100 Metres There also rarely other sports events participated in. In 2013 there was a grade 6 volleyball tournament at Sackville High School which William King participated, but only sending in one team. Every June the grade 6's go on a trip to Bayside Camp in Sambro Head, Nova Scotia. There is also a grade 6 band. The only instruments available are Clarinet, Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Guitar and Bells (Xylophone and Snare Drum). The 4's, 5's and 6's also go to the Emera Oval every February for a field trip. Also every June everyone has a fun day at Huskies Stadium at St. Mary's University. Feeder Schools William King feeds into Herring Cove Junior High for junior high school along with Sambro Elementary and Harrietsfield Elementary. Then to JL Ilsley for high school.
