William and Mary College Republicans

The College Republicans at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia is one of the most active chapters in the state of Virginia. Despite the fact that William and Mary is a predominately liberal campus, the College Republicans organization boasts over 60 active members of diverse political perspectives under the conservative realm and has engaged in significant activism both on campus and off . The club has more than doubled in membership in the past year and continues to grow significantly. During the fall, the club campaigned for State Delegate Brenda Pogge, Former US Representative Thelma Drake, John McCain, and US Representative Rob Wittman. This coming fall, the club plans to campaign on behalf of Pogge, Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling, Ken Cuccinelli and several others as the Republican Party seeks to regain control of .
Activism and plans
The club has also began expansion this past year in activism outside of campaigning. Most notably, the club organized the Colonial Area Tea Party for America on campus at the Crim Dell Meadow on April 11, 2009 to protest the big spending and the bailouts taking place in Washington, D.C.. This non-partisan event sought to be a vehicle to stand up for the younger generation and let elected leaders know that leaving future generations in debt is unacceptable. The event drew 500 people from all over the area, brought speakers such as State Senator Tommy Norment, State Delegates Brenda Pogge and Bill Janis, James City County Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Mary Jones, US Representative Rob Wittman, and William and Mary students. The club plans to continue its activism on campus in the area by making its presence known using other events and by giving a conservative perspective to many of the issues that the campus has found itself divided over.
A goal for this coming year is to work with the Young Democrats on campus to host a gubernatorial debate on campus in the Fall.
