Wilko Vriesman

Wilko Vriessman (born 1958) has been on the forefront of Aikido in the Netherlands since the very beginning of his career. He started training in Aikido in 1982 and he was awarded with Shodan in 1988 by Kanetsuka Sensei and Fujuita Sensei. Kanetsuka Sensei and subsequently Fujita Sensei were his first teachers in Holland. In 1990, on the invitation of the latter and of Yokota sensei he became a uchi-deshi at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo, Tokyo under doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba and in that role he trained closely with the late and the current Doshu.
Upon his return to Europe in 1992 on the introduction of the late Seigo Yamaguchi Sensei, he became a uchi-deshi of Christian Tissier Shihan.  He turned professional in 1995.  
He received 6th dan in 2011 at hombu dojo directly from the Doshu.
Wilko Vriesman is the initiator and founding figure in the forming of the Dutch Aikikai Foundation (DAF) as well as Technical Director of Aikikai Slovenia and several groups in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The DAF, founded in 2001, counts with about seventy dojos and represents the line Tissier in The Netherlands.  In 2009 he has was instrumental figure in the creation of Aikido Nederland : part of the  (NOC/NSF) it is a federation which embraces several national organisations that represent the country in the International Aikido Federation (IAF) and the Martial Arts Games.
