Wiley Sylvester Grayer

Wiley Sylvester Grayer was born on March 23, 1883 and died on October 8, 1936.
Wiley was a farmer and huckster in the Township of Colchester, Ontario. He was born on the homestead farm on Highway 18. -- His family had come up through the Underground Railroad after the Civil War in the USA and settled in the areaHe sold his melons, cucumbers and vegetables in the Windsor and Amherstburg area by horse and wagon. Wiley was the first Letter Carrier in the Township in the early 1900s and delivered mail on Rural Route 2 and RR 4. RR 2 was a 15 mile round trip and RR 4 was a 25 mile round trip. He was one of the first letter carriers with Canada Post in the early 1900s, in southwestern Ontario
Wiley married Maude Luella Mulder (b. March 16, 1885 - December 19, 1955). Maude was an ambitious woman and worked daily with her husband taking the mail on its rounds by horse and buggy. In 1920 Wiley bought a car which helped speed up the mail delivery considerably.
Wiley and Maude had 15 children
