Henry Harrison Hunkins

Henry Harrison Hunkins was a Wisconsin Territory resident that is known for contributing to early Wisconsin politics.
Hunkins was the son of Sargeant Roger Hunkins, grandson of Robert Hastings Hunkins and the great-grandson of Revolutionary War Captain Robert Hunkins. He was the third generation of the Hunkins family to contribute to Wisconsin politics.
Hunkins was born in on May 8, 1830 in Danville, Caledonia County, Vermont. His parents were Sargeant R. Hunkins and Rebecca Whitcher. Whitcher was the daughter of Henry Whitcher (born January 1, 1771; died July 13, 1848) and Polly Bidwell (born January 1, 1774; died March 24, 1851). In 1839 Hunkins migrated from Vermont to New Berlin, Wisconsin. After settling in Wisconsin, Hunkins married Margaret Beggs.
Hunkins was considered an "old settler" of the Wisconsin Territory and joined the now-defunct Waukesha County Old Settler's Club in the early 1870s. On Saturday, February 4, 1871, the old settlers of Waukesha County met at the Waukesha Exchange to set up the club. Hunkins was elected club treasurer.
Family
Hunkins and wife Margaret had the following children:
*Charles Hunkins, born March 1, 1868. He married Margaret Agnes Johnson. Charles died June 5, 1921.
*Sarah Florence Hunkins, born May 19, 1869. Sarah died December 10, 1946.
*Ernest Hunkins, born December 13, 1870. Erenst married Evaletta Howard and together they had five children. According to birth order, their children were: Harold Henry Hunkins (b. November 19, 1898; d. March 11, 1916); Blanche Lillian Pearl Hunkins (b. February 8, 1901; d. July 18, 1936), who married Albert Vorwerk; Bernice Arvilla Hunkins (b. February 26, 1905; d. July 8, 1997) who married Vernon Levi Nelson; Howard Ernest Hunkins (b. November 6, 1908; d. January 29, 1909) who died in infancy; and finally, Ernest Merle Hunkins (b. May 17, 1917; d. June 7, 1981) who married Blanche Hester. Ernest Hunkins died April 23, 1926.
*George Hunkins Sr., born August 17, 1872. George died September 20, 1950.
*William Beggs Hunkins, born July 5, 1874. William died October 5, 1928.
*Nettie Hunkins, born September 4, 1876. Nettie died October 25, 1938.
*Herbert Hunkins, born December 22, 1878. Herbert died March 1, 1944.
*Sargeant Eugene Hunkins, born August 18, 1884. Sargeant died April 19, 1949.
*Margaret Myrtle Hunkins, born September 13, 1887. Margaret died April 17, 1940.
Political involvement
After the State Legislature passed the Conscription Act, Hunkins was appointed in May, 1863, to make enlistment rolls in the town of New Berlin.
From 1865-1866, Hunkins was County Treasurer in Waukesha.
In 1869, Hunkins was elected Street Commissioner. The Street Commissioner terms were served in one year periods.
In 1871, the same year as joining the Waukesha County Old Settler's Club, Hunkins was elected as a village officer in Waukesha County. Also in 1871, then again in 1873, Hunkins was a Waukesha village Trustee.
