KAYODE OLADELE, Member, House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Financial Crimes is a top-notch international lawyer, accomplished development journalist, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and financial intelligence consultant. He holds a Bachelor of laws [LLB (Hons)] degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, Master of Laws degree from the Wayne State University Law School, Detroit, Michigan, USA and Barrister -at-law from the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos. He also attended the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos, Nigeria. He is an attorney and counselor -at-law of the Supreme Courts of the United States of America and Barrister-at-law of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Oladele is admitted to practice before several United States of American Courts including the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, US Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Sixth, Seventh and Federal Circuits respectively, the US Court of International Trade, and the U.S District Courts for the Eastern District of Michigan, Northern District of Illinois and District of (Washington) D.C etc. He is a member of several professional Associations including the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, (CIArb) UK, Association for International Arbitration (AIA), the International Nuclear Law Association (INLA), the State Bar of Michigan (SBM), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association (IBA). He was a member, Ogun State Committee on Nigerian Constitutional Review (2010) and has also served the Federal Government of Nigeria in various capacities such as: Secretary, Nigeria Border Trade Study Committee, (1992), Secretary, Technical Committee to Study the Cartographic Survey of Nigeria-Cameroon Border (Middle Belt and North-East Axis) (1993) and member of the team on Ethnographic Study of Nigeria-Niger Border Towns (1993). Oladele is one of the pioneers of contemporary prodemocracy, human rights and civil society movement in Nigeria. As the Executive Director of the Movement for Social and Economic Justice (MOSEJ) and member of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), the Campaign for Democracy (CD), the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), United Democratic Front of Nigeria (UDFN), the Nigerian Prodemocracy Network (NPDN), the Nigerian Advocacy Group for Democracy and Human Rights (NAG-DHR), he played frontline roles (both nationally and internationally) in the Nigerian democratic movement and agitation for civil rule that eventually led to the collapse of military dictatorship in Nigeria in 1999. As a trans-border lawyer, Oladele has contributed immensely to legal jurisprudence whilst some of the high profile international human rights violation cases he has handled have become major legal precedents worldwide. Oladele has also written scores of scholarly articles focusing on the endemic problems of the society and emphasizes effective participation of the people in development planning alongside with the government. Guided by the relationship between law and Journalism, most of his writings propound action-oriented approach to help overcome challenges like poverty, illiteracy, rule of law and other socio-economic problems in developing democracies. Prior to his election into the House of Representatives, Oladele served as the Chief of Staff in the office of the Executive Chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where he also left indelible marks in the fight against corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria. He was also the recipient of 2010 Diaspora Human Rights Award by the Empowered Newswire of New York in conjunction with the Nigerian Embassy in United States in commemoration of the 50th Independent Anniversary of Nigeria and was also named amongst the fifty most prominent Nigerians in North America during the same period.
