Original & New Heroes Ithron Aiwendil invented and brought in a number of characters for the game.
Pallando "You see the future before you, mortals ! Gondor and your pathetic little resistance will fall, just like those prisoners you see right now ! The alliance of Sauron, Saruman and Pallando shall take over the lands ! Together, we shall rule Middle-earth ! And there will be no dawn... for men."
One of the two Blue Wizards who were sent to the East in order to purify the hearts of the Easterlings. However, Pallando fell under Sauron's influence by looking into the palantír of Osgiliath (which was held by the king of Rhun, by yet unknown reasons) and betrayed his "brother", Alatar; instead of cleaning the hearts of the men of the East, he deceived them to follow Sauron's bidding. During the Wars of the East, he claimed the throne of Rhûn for himself, and he was the true mastermind behind the movements of the evil men of the East and South. At the end of the war, however, Pallando has lost the final duel against Alatar, and was slain by him.
Pallando is also known as Rómestámo ("East-Helper") amongst the Easterlings. He gained this name during the time he was still good, and shared his wisdom with the Easterling people.
Being one of the five Istari, Pallando wields formidable powers. However, after his mind and soul were corrupted by Sauron, he left the way of "good" magic and turned towards the dark side of magic. Pallando overcomes his opponents through many dirty tricks and manipulation rather than facing them in direct combat. But if it's necessary, Pallando is also a skilled fighter, and his power in this matter grew even stronger after he claimed Alatar's sword, Nargothrond.
Alatar "Pallando... you call yourself Rómestámo — the East-Helper. But soon, I shall remind why am I called Morinehtar, the Darkness Slayer !"
Second of the two Blue Wizards. Unlike Pallando, Alatar remained loyal to his task, and he tried to bring back Pallando to the right path before it would be too late. Unfortunately for him, it was already too late. After realizing that Pallando fell under the Shadow's control, he had no chance but to take up arms against him. And so, Alatar warned the Free Realms of the East about this new danger, and made the necessary steps to stop Pallando right before he could start a war. But Pallando was faster than Alatar though, and attacked Cuiviénen. Tulamdir, son of Targon held the Easterlings at bay, while Alatar went to Rhûn and tried to raise a rebellion against Pallando. But it was too late — again. After this, Alatar was imprisoned to Rholavion (Pallando's main fortress and base of operations), but a bit later he was eventually freed by a small dorwinian strike force, led by Borlach, Ratvith and Tulamdir. In order to stop Pallando, Alatar searched for allies, and during this time he heard an old tale from Tharna, about the mystical "wraith of Kalorme" and his forgotten people. Alatar sent Tharna to the Last Desert to investigate this — and Tharna's journey was successful, for he met with the noble people of Kalorme, and their leader, Akrothir. Later, during the war's final stage, Alatar visited Akrothir personally, and freed him from his curse of being "chained" to the mountain. In the end, it was Alatar and Akrothir who led the final charge against Pallando's forces at Rholavion. At the battle's end, Pallando and Alatar fought a final duel, which was won by Alatar, and thus he restored the peace in the East.
Alatar is also known as Morinehtar ("Darkness Slayer"), a name given to him by the elves of Cuiviénen during a time when Alatar freed slaves from the Easterlings' imprisonment (and killed a few Easterlings in the process).
Alatar, being an Istari, is a capeable spellcaster, and also a strong fighter. He is brave and always ready to engage opponents in close combat, but also wise and he avoids fighting as much as possible.
Tharna Tharna (the Adventurer) "Our way was peaceful so far, master Dasron, but I have a bad feeling about this place... I feel as if someone or something would be... watching us."
Tharna is a young boy who lived near the borders of Rhûn with his family, until his home village was destroyed by Easterling raiders. The villagers could not match the skills of their attackers, and had no choice but to flee — and so had Tharna. But his family could not escape — they were all murdered by the Easterlings. After this, Tharna swore that he will pledge his life to protect others, and so he joined one of the many adventuring companies who were fleeing from the borderlands of Rhûn, hoping to start a new life in Dorwinion or Hildórien. During his journey, Tharna met with Dasron, the richest Merchant Lord of entire Dorwinion and volunteered to be his personal bodyguard. At first, Dasron simply laughed at the boy's offer, but after Tharna proved to be better in a duel than one of Dasron's most trusted guards, he was accepted. After this day, Tharna escorted Dasron anywhere he went, protecting him from bandits, raiders, ambushers. Tharna is also famous for forming the "Brown Company" during the Wars of the East out of various adventurers who shared a similar fate like him. And at the top of all, it was Tharna who led an expedition into the Last Desert (by Alatar's orders) to seek out the fabled "wraith of Kalorme"; the journey was dangerous and cost the life of many brave adventurers, but in the end, it was a success, for Tharna met with Akrothir, the king of the mountain and the people who lived in the city beneath Kalorme.
During his journey, he learned how to move almost unseen in almost any terrain, and he is a real master with his pair of short swords. Thanks to his quick thinking and bravery, the often-overlooked boy played an important role during the Wars of the East.
SPECIAL NOTE: Tharna is a fan-made character and does not appear in any of Tolkien's books. The character of Tharna was created by Balázs Morris (aka MB/MorrisB), a Hungarian Tolkien fan — and also one of the members of the WotE staff.
