ViSalus

ViSalus Sciences is a nutrition and weight-loss company. The company was founded in 2005 by Ryan Blair, Blake Mallen, and Nick Sarnicola. Its corporate headquarters are in Troy, MI, USA.
The company distributes its products in the United States through a network of independent distributors, some of whom earn profit on product sales and additional commission from a multi-level marketing (MLM) compensation structure.
History
In 2005, Ryan Blair, Blake Mallen, and Nick Sarnicola founded ViSalus as a multi-level marketing company that distributes health and wellness products.
In August 2008, Blyth, Inc. signed a definitive agreement to purchase ViSalus through a series of investments. In October, 2008, Blyth acquired a 43.6% interest in ViSalus for 13.0 million. Blyth is required to purchase all noncontrolling interests in ViSalus if ViSalus meets certain operating targets in 2010, 2011, and 2012. ViSalus did not meet its predefined operating target for calendar year 2010, however Blyth waived this operating target requirement for 2010 and on April 15, 2011, Blyth closed on the second phase of its acquisition of ViSalus Sciences and now owns 57.5% of the company.
Products
The ViSalus product range includes protein shakes, nutritional supplements, and an energy drink. The company promotes its "Body by Vi" program, which is a 90-day weight-loss challenge using its protein shakes as meal replacements.
Business Model
ViSalus is a multi-level marketing company using a unilevel compensation plan.<ref name="ppcomp"/> In addition to profits from product sales, ViSalus distributors can earn additional commissions from sales by their 'downline' distributors.
