Virac Town Center is a shopping mall in the Philippines, specifically in the island province of Virac, Catanduanes. It opened its doors on December 19, 2014 along with its landmark supermarket, the ACC Hypermart. The initial phase of the mall featured a food court, drug store, boutiques, shops, and a commercial bank. Eventually, more restaurants and shops opened (ex. 2Go courier, McDonald’s). A cinema which would be the first in the island is also in the pipeline as disclosed by a local public official. Contribution to Local Employment The mall has given at least 200 job opportunities for the local population of the island since unemployment is one of the biggest problems of the province. In fact, the mall was among the employers in the province that supported the government’s campaign against employee contractualization in 2016. Contribution to Local Tourism In the first Tourism Ambassadors Awards on October 27, 2017, Virac Town Center was given an Institutional Award “for serving as center of tourism-related events and exuding the cosmopolitan vibe to the rustic charm of the Happy Island”, Catanduanes.
