Violet Book is a biannual British art and fashion magazine launched in 2014 by Leith Clark. Clark, who served as both the founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine, created the publication as a reaction to "the way youth is over-celebrated." Violet Book also publishes an international edition, Violet Book Japan, which is also biannual. History The inaugural issue was published in April 2014 and featured actress Brit Marling on the cover. Alexa Chung, a former roommate of Clark's is the only woman to have appeared on both the UK and Japanese editions of Violet Book. Clark made it a part of the mandate of the magazine to commission work from women creatives stating " I think the female gaze is lacking in most creative fields and it’s a unique one - especially when it’s looking at women." The magazine also features frequent contributor Amanda de Cadenet. International Editions In 2017 Violet Book released their first Japanese edition, Violet Book Japan, with Rinko Kikuchi as their cover star.
