Variable length flexible stylus

A Variable length flexible stylus is a geometrical instrument used in silverpoint drawing to measure and emulate a grayscale value where subtle variations in subject shading are controlled by the length of a flexible silver wire protruding from its holder. The formula Vn ƒ LF teaches that the Value number is a function of the Length of a Flexible stylus as it protrudes from its holder . Pressure at the tip of the stylus decreases as the length of the flexible stylus increases resulting in a lighter mark. Conversely, retracting the flexible stylus, more pressure is applied at the tip leaving a darker mark.
