Tony Manolatos is a San Diego communications strategist, blogger and former award-winning journalist.. Manolatos was an investigative reporter at The San Diego Union-Tribune from 2005 to 2009 where he covered crime, police and fire administrations and the San Diego branch of the FBI. He was the primary reporter at the Union-Tribune covering the aftermath of 2007 wildfires. He appeared on television news programs and radio shows to discuss the firestorms, fielding interviews from Los Angeles to Australia. A story he wrote about cross-border kidnappings had the most page views - 255,000 - on the newspaper's web site in 2008. Manolatos has worked at four newspapers, including The Detroit News. At The Detroit News, Manolatos was the first to report that Indiana Pacers players would be charged for fighting with fans at the Palace of Auburn Hills. From 2009 to 2011, Manolatos served as Communications Director and later Deputy Chief of Staff to San Diego City Councilmember Kevin Faulconer. His tenure with Faulconer has been noted for raising the Councilmember's profile and overhauling the Councilmember's online and social media presence. Manolatos provided communication and strategy services for the campaign against the November, 2010 City of San Diego sales tax increase (Proposition D; defeated 38% to 62%).
