Valley of the Jedi

The Valley of the Jedi is a fictional location appearing in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

Where
The Valley is located near the site of the Battle of Ruusan.

What Happened
It was there that Lord Kaan of the Sith Order unleashed a thought bomb on the Jedi Lord Hoth.

Jedi Johun Othone, against the will of the Jedi Council, built a monument to the heroes of the Army of Light as well as Lord Hoth which contained a mausoleum adorned with massive statues. He also placed a huge Adegan crystal in a meditative chamber for the Jedi. The monuments were made from stones that came from various planets which represented the many home planets of the heroes of the Army of Light.

It is believed that the spirits of the Jedi were trapped in the Valley and the Bouncers of Ruusan said that they would be freed when a Knight returned to destroy the natural balance. Because the Jedi Council did not approve the construction of the Valley, they eventually forgot about it and, over the years it gained legendary status.

Later
The location of the valley was eventually lost for a number of reasons, despite the fact that a number of races had lifespans that could easily have lasted from the Battle of Ruusan to 0 BBY (e.g. the Hutts or the Star Dragons). The final months of the Light and Darkness War were chaotic, with Jedi and Sith armies frantically racing across and battling in some of the most remote regions of the galaxy. Furthermore, the Thought Bomb had annihilated almost everyone who would've most vividly remembered the Valley's location, and a combination of forgetfulness and age eliminated any knowledge held by the few people who knew the location but had not participated in the battle.

The Jedi believed that either the Galactic Empire or the Dark Jedi would try to take advantage of the power trapped in the Valley and tried to keep its existence safe until his friend, , discovered its location. The map to the Valley's location was inscribed into the stones that formed the ceiling of Morgan's home, however both Rahn and Morgan were murdered by the Dark Jedi Jerec who was looking for the Valley himself. Jerec took the map and established a base around the Valley as protection while he entered and began infusing himself with its power. Kyle Katarn, Morgan's son, followed Jerec and reached the valley, eventually defeating Jerec and his retinue of Dark Jedi followers, thus keeping the Valley's location safe(All these events took place in the game Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II). But rumors said the profaned valley produced a new kind of crystal for the light saber, full of hate and sorrow, and this crystal became forbidden for any Jedi to use. The crystals - called the "Tears of Ragnos" - produce a very dark purple, almost black, lightsaber blade and have a lot of bad side effects on its handler, changing the personality of the carrier.

Following these events Kyle gave up his force abilities after almost being sucked into the Dark Side of the force in Star Wars Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith, a companion game to Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. He returned to his former job as a mercenary for the New Republic along with his partner and long-time friend Jan Ors. However, a Dark Jedi named Desann heard about the Valley of the Jedi and hoped to gain its power for himself. He captured Jan and held her at gunpoint in order to get Kyle to try to save her. Since Kyle had given up his powers, though, he was no match for Desann who easily defeated him. With Kyle unable to help Desann ordered his apprentice Tavion Axmis to kill Jan. Her death immediately sent Kyle into a blind rage and he returned to the Valley in order to regain his former power. However, the whole thing had been an elaborate ruse by Desann who merely faked Jan's death in order to force Kyle to reveal the Valley's location. After Kyle left Desann arrived and began infusing his soldiers with the Valley's force energy, thus creating Dark Jedi warriors he named Reborn Jedi. He then travelled to the Lenico asteroid belt which contained the Imperial Outpost Cairn where his ship, the Doomgiver was docked. Once aboard he headed for the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. However, Desann was unaware that Kyle had secretly sneaked aboard as well and had killed Admiral Galak Fyyar, the commander of his army. It was on the Doomgiver that Kyle found Jan, whom he had believed dead. After disabling the Doomgiver's shields, thus allowing Rogue Squadron to destroy it, he used an escape pod to bring Jan and himself to the planet's surface. He then helped Luke Skywalker and the rest of the Academy's resident Jedi defeat the invading Reborn Jedi. In doing so he managed to push his way through the waves of Dark Jedi to Desann himself and defeated him in one-on-one combat.

Again Forgotten
With all the Dark Jedi who could have known the Valley's location taken care of, it was safe again. Subsequently, Kyle only shared its location with Jan and Luke in order to make sure that the site would only be investigated by the Jedi and not misused by their enemies.
