Origins
The Star Wars Family can be catorgoized into two groups. the Movies and the Expanded Universe.
The Original Star Wars Family started in 1980 with the release of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. It was revealed in this movie that the Villian of the Series: Darth Vader was the Father of Luke Skywalker. At the conclusion of the original Star Wars Trilogy the family expanded to three people. In 1983 with the release of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed to Luke Skywalker that he had a Sister, Leia Organa. Also during this time it was revealed that Luke's and Leia's fathers Name was Anakin Skywalker. Near the end of Return of the Jedi, Luke lashes out at his father for a veiled threat towards Leia.
At the beginning of the trilogy we are introduced to the Lars family whom we learn to be Luke's Aunt and uncle who adopted him shortly after his parents death. During the 1977 film Star Wars IV: A New Hope Both of luke's adoptive parents are killed by Vader's minions in search of R2D2 and C3PO whom Luke has taken ownership of.

Prequel Origins
When George Lucas originally wrote the Star Wars series, he was hard pressed for cash and was only able to create Episodes 4-6. Despite the low finances and the reduced quality of graphics of the Time, Star Wars became a World Wide phenomenon that made TV entertainment what it is today.
In 1996 George Lucas announced that he was in talks for creating the next series of Star Wars films, with the Primary Focus on Anakin Skywalker and his Origins as well as his rise and fall to the creation of Darth Vader.
Three years later we were blessed with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Released on May 19 1999. As promised the Film focused on the Origins of Anakin Skywalker. In the film we were introduced to Shmi Skywalker on Tatooine and Shmi's son, Anakin Skywalker, who was apparently conceived by the midi-chlorians and born with the help of The Force. As the Film progresses the film brings to the forefront, the Jedi and their Roles as keepers of the Peace in the Old Republic and how Anakin Skywalker was introduced to the life of the Jedi.
In Nearly 3 years later dedicated fans were blessed with the second installment of the series: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. In this addition to the series the fans saw Anakin' slow fall to the darkside with the death of his mother and subsequent mass murder of the Tusken Raiders who kidnapped her, and his budding romance with Padme Amidala. Near the end of the Film the Clone Wars breaks out and War engulfs what remains of the Old Republic.
Exactly 6 years to the day after the successful launch of the Prequel Trilogy fans were given the final chapter of the Trilogy: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. This final and dark chapter in Star Wars history set the stage for the the first trilogy and showed the transformation of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader as well as showed the birth of Luke Skywalker and his twin sister Leia Skywalker (soon to be Leia Organa). Their mother Padme Amidala having been assaulted by her husband Anakin Skywalker lost the will to live during child birth and died shortly after naming her children. At the end of the film we see Leia being taken away by her adoptive parents, Bail Organna and his wife, on Alderaan and Luke being given to Owen and Beru Lars by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Expanded Universe (EU) Family Tree
The Star Wars Expanded Universe encompasses all of the officially licensed, fictional background of the Star Wars universe, outside of the six feature films produced by George Lucas. The expanded universe includes books, comic books, video games, spin-off films, television series, toys, and other media. This material expands and continues the stories told in the films.

In the fictional Star Wars universe, the Skywalker family is a Force-sensitive family started by Shmi Skywalker on Tatooine. Shmi's son, Anakin Skywalker, was apparently conceived by the midi-chlorians and born with the help of The Force.
History
After Anakin left Tatooine, Shmi married , becoming the stepmother of . Owen later married . As a Jedi Knight, Anakin secretly married Padmé Amidala, who gave birth to twins, Luke and Leia. Luke was raised on Tatooine by his aunt and uncle (Beru and Owen Lars), while Leia was raised by Senator Bail Organa and Queen Breha Organa on Alderaan.
In the Expanded Universe, Luke, following his sister's marriage with Han Solo and the birth of the Solo children (Anakin, Jacen, and Jaina), married Mara Jade, who had a son named .
According to an ongoing comic book series from Dark Horse called Star Wars: Legacy, which takes place 130 years after the end of Star Wars: A New Hope, Cade Skywalker, son of Kol Skywalker and a direct descendant of Luke Skywalker, is the last surviving Skywalker of his time. It is shown that he has completely abandoned the Jedi way after the New Sith Order attacked the Jedi Academy on Ossus, although he still encounters other Jedi, as well as the ghost of Luke Skywalker.
