Valentin Mihai Bogdan

Romanian born pianist Valentin Mihai Bogdan started his music studies in Brasov, Romania. Besides piano, he also studied music theory, conducting, composition and organ. Upon his move to the United States, he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Piano from Wayne State University, a Master of Music degree from Michigan State University and his Doctor of Music degree from University of Miami, Florida. He has performed numerous times since the age of five in his native Romania, but also in countries such as France, Italy, Great Britain, Jordan, Netherlands, Canada and U.S.

Competitions

Mr. Bogdan has received a number of prestigious awards. He was awarded the Livonia Arts Commission Scholarship in 2001, the Mu Phi Epsilon Award in 2001, as well as the Michigan Merit Award in 2000. He was also the winner of the Wayne State University Concerto Competition in 2002.

Research

Mr. Bogdan's research revolves around making music accessible to a wider variety of students. He has researched the relationship between music memorization and ear training. He is also the author of Piano For the Busy Adult, an introductory piano method targeted at the adult students, especially the members of the baby boomer generation. He is also the author of the study "The Classical Pianist and Entrepreneurship; a Case Study Featuring Public Domain Tango Music" which researched new methods for classical musicians to publicize their music.

Recordings

Mr Bogdan released a number of solo and chamber music recordings. "Valentin M. Bogdan Live in Concert" features the works of Liszt, Beethoven, Bach and Scriabin. "From Habanera to Tango" features original piano-four hand arrangements of tangos from the Old Guard period played with Russian pianist Julia Mortyakova.
