Vague relationship

A vague relationship is a relationship between two people in which one or more of the people are not sure if they, or the other, views the relationship as romantic, purely sexual, or platonic. Vague relationships may last months or years. They are distinguished from situations of unrequited love by their lack of strong rejection of one participant, so that the relationship continues in a state of uncertainty.
Vague relationships usually arise when one of the lovers prefers not to enter into a formal relationship in order not to commit to his or her partner and the other is too weak or too fearful of being rejected to object.
In contrast to formal relationships, where polyamory is usually ill-perceived and considered cheating, adepts of vague relationships can typically have several vague relationships going on at the same time.
Vague relationship status
A vague relationship status can also describe expressions used to obfuscate one's relationship status on social networking or dating sites, for example the phrase "It's complicated" on Facebook. Obviously, that kind of status can also genuinely describe one's status if one is currently in one or several Vague relationships.
