Uniboarding Uniboarding was a scene that started in 2009, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. It was bred from a bunch of kids who didn't really fit into any other group. These youths started breaking skateboards in half and tried to do tricks. It later developed into an anti-skater movement. It was created on the twenty-fourth of April in the Lee's Summit North High School parking lot by the practical and symbolic breaking of a skateboard. The Basics Uniboarding, ironically, incorporates a skateboard. It has been split in half so that it only has one truck. (Hence the "uni.") Uniboarding has not evolved away from stationary tricks since it is really hard to actually move on one of the boards. Uniboarders preform different "flip-tricks" such as: an improbable, the mermaid, a mind freak, the thin lizzy, finger flip, prude, or melon. These tricks are accomplished by either spinning or flipping the board as you jump off of it and landing back on it in different positions. There are two different starting stances on the board: the regular, which is where the broken end is off the ground and your back foot is on the lip; the groffy style, which is the exact opposite. Also, any trick can be landed "half-ass" style. That is where only one foot lands on the board. The "Scene" Uniboarders are considered an alternative, sub-culture. They are recognized by wearing athletic shoes made for basketball or running, they wear pretty normal clothes that are not associated with skateboarding. They use words such as broaconstrictor, when refering to someone who is cool; dudedacious, used in reference to something awesome; or lisa, who is any girl that is cool. Uniboarders hate skateboarders and will usually start fights with them at skate parks that have been "claimed" for Uniboarding or just laugh at how lame they think the skateboarders are. Important Figures One of the lead Uniboarders today is Sean Prudden from Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was one of the three who created the sport and has come to demonstrate the greatest amount of talent. The "Prude" was named after him. Sean Groff is credited with creating the Groffy style stance. He is also one of the first three founders. Brett N. Wahle was the first to create a Uniboard by breaking his old skateboard. He has also created the melon. Spencer Hamilton is the third of the original creators. Bobby Kordick, who started Uniboarding later than the original three, was the first to land a thin lizzy, which is considered the hardest trick to land. Unibarding Today Uniboarding continues to grow in popularity. It appeals to kids who don't like associating with skateboarders and who don't have a lot of money. Uniboarders are cheaper than skate boards. A uniboard will go for half as much as a skate board of equal quality. Many people in the Kansas City area have adopted the Uniboarding culture and sport. Tricks A standard trick on a Uniboard is where the rider jumps up while the board spins and then lands back on it in the same position as when he jumped. That is called an improbable. A degree might be added before that, respectively. ex: 360 improbable. A mermaid or mind freak is like the improbable, only, when you land it you either land with both feet on the lip of the board with the rest of the board behind you, or with both feet on the broken end, respectively. A thin lizzy, one of the more challenging tricks, is accomplished by jumping off the board, flipping it onto its side and then landing back down on the side of the board. A finger flip is when you hold the board in your hand then run and flip the board onto the ground and land on top of it. A prude is when you flip the board 180 degrees so that you land on it with the wheels facing up. If the board flips a full 360 degrees then it would be called a home-run. Uniboarding Teams So far, the only Uniboarding team is Lee's Summit United Uniboarding. They are an "indie" team situated in Lee's Summit, Missouri. The team continues to grow in numbers. <references/> <references/> [http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id1308692352&refts]
