Undergone

Undergone is an American alternative rock band from San Jose, California formed in 2003. The band consists of vocalist Pat Hopkins, guitarist Evan Carr, guitarist Mike Duell, bassist Greg Hopkins and drummer Paul Carr.
Pat and Greg are brothers, as are Evan and Paul, and the pairs of brothers grew up together as neighbors. Mike was a longtime friend that lived a block away. Undergone has independently released their own material since formation in 2003, their latest is an EP titled Rock 'N' Roll Ain't Dead. They have performed at the Van's Warped Tour in 2008 and 2009, and they are currently managed by Restless Management Group.
Career
Undergone began while the band members were teenagers. Evan and Paul began writing songs together, with a nu-metal sound which was popular at the time. Pat volunteered his services on vocals and Greg joined on bass guitar shortly thereafter. The band spent their formative years performing around the entire Silicon Valley area including the famed Gaslighter Theatre in Campbell, California and released several self-made demos over the course of two years.
The band changed styles in 2006 to alternative rock and released their first LP The Scene That Sold Itself that summer. The album was recorded at House of Faith Studios in Oakland, California with punk producer/engineer Bart Thurber. They then released their second LP, Spring Break '99 in 2007, which was recorded at Castle Ulitimate Studios with producer/engineer Aaron Hellam. Undergone established themselves locally opening for larger acts such as The Higher, Quiet Drive, My American Heart, We Shot The Moon, The Ataris, A Change of Pace, Secondhand Serenade, and various others. Tracks from the Spring Break '99 LP are featured on the soundtrack for A Giant Awakens, a documentary about the rise of American Rugby.
In 2008 they toured with Drive-Thru Records artist Say No More. They then won a spot on the San Francisco date of the Van's Warped Tour via Ernie Ball's Battle of The Bands. The band's lineup was completed when Mike Duell joined the band later that year. In January 2009, the band was filmed by MTV as Duell was the subject of an episode of the Dr. Drew Pinsky reality show Sex...With Mom and Dad. However, the episode never aired as the program was shelved. That spring, the band released their first music video, for the song "The Day That I Met You". They then toured with Hopeless Records artist Nural. That summer they performed on the "Kevin Says Stage" at the Van's Warped Tour in San Francisco. They returned to Castle Ultimate Studios and in late 2009 they released an EP titled Rock 'N' Roll Ain't Dead, which saw the band turn their direction back toward a heavier sound. In the spring of 2010, Undergone's trailer was burglarized and lost $3,000 worth of equipment and merchandise, and they began a fundraiser to replace what was lost.
They are currently performing various dates around the San Francisco Bay Area and are plotting a summer tour. Undergone is currently featured on the "The Unsigned Top 10" chart on Alternative Addiction.
Musical style
Undergone began as Nu Metal but are now best described as a mix of alternative rock, power pop, hard rock, and heavy metal.
Their influences are mainly mid to late 1990s alternative rock groups as well as slight influences from 70s rock and 80s hair metal.
