Ubertrophy

Introduction
The Official UberTrophy Tournament, is a games console based NHL tournament, played on the Xbox 360, where a number of teams battle it out in a Ice Hockey match, to win the UberTrophy Cup.
Played on EA Sport's NHL 08, this tournament takes place over a number weeks, the teams competing in the tournament are first put into groups stages, before the top two teams from both groups go through to the semi-final, and then the final to see who is the champion.
The History of the Ubertrophy
When the UberTrophy first began in June 2008, only a small amount of people were entered into this now prestigious tournament. Now known as "The Original Four", these teams where the first building blocks on which the UberTrophy Tournament is built upon. With the first UberTrophy over, and the tournament becoming more famou, more people showed some strong interest, and it was decided by the UberTrophy Founder and Co. Founder, Tim Noble and Patrick Davey, that more teams should be allowed to enter.
During the period between the first and second UberTrophy, an UberTrophy website was set up (www.ubertrophy.wikispaces.com). This enabled the UberTrophy founders (Tim Noble and Patrick Davey) to keep much more of an eye on the proceedings, and it also served as a forum were views and ideas were able to be spoken. The fixtures list and teams standings were also put on the website so a much more accurate record could be kept of the tournament.
And so, on September 14th 2008, the Second UberTrophy began, this time consisting of seven teams. However, as with many tournaments of this sort, there always will be casualties. The first team to drop out of the Ubertrophy, were the Dallas Stars. This was then quickly followed by the Washington Capitals, both of whom left after the first tournament. After a hugely sucessful second tournament, won by the Detroit Red Wings, it was decided a third UberTrophy should be held soon after. Another player requested to join, and with eight teams, the third UberTrophy got underway.

Changes to the UberTrophy
The Loser Trophy
Probably the biggest change to come to the UberTrophy so far, is the Implementation of the Loser Trophy, or to give it it's full name, The Interference Davey Trophy Tournament Award Cup. With seven teams entered into the second UberTrophy, and with only four teams allowed to qualify, a small mini-tournament was approved and implemented, so the three (or four as in the case of the third tournament) teams left would not get bored. The first Loser Trophy was a group stage, with points being awarded for the number of goals scored.
The next Loser Trophy was changed, so that it, like the UberTrophy, had a final and semi-final and then and a final. This was considered a better way to do things as it was more cometitive.
Tournament 1: no trophy held
Tournament 2: Laurence Cox- Carolina Hurricanes
Tournament 3: Laurence Cox- Carolina Hurricanes
Changes to the Rules
Since the UberTrophy first started, many new rules and regulation were incoporated to make the tournament as fair as possible.
The first rule to be changed said that "No Changing of teams once the tournament is started"
this was included after one UberTrophy member switched teams half way through the the second UberTrophy Tournament.
The second rule to be added, this also at the end of the second tournment, was not only a controversial one, but a very important one, as it could make the difference between a team qualifiying or not. the second rule stated:
"10 acumulated penalties means a one point deduction (or a two goal deduction depending on whether they are in the semi-fianls or not)"
The third rule, brought in just before the start of the third UberTrophy stated that:
"Only NHL teams can be chosen"
The rest of the rules were also made days before the third UberTropy commenced after it was decided that much more strict restriction were needed to keep the UberTrophy fair, but also entertaining.
The Rules read like this
No forfeits, you go down with your team
----
If somebody wants to watch a replay, you let them
----
You must shake hands after every match
----
If you can't make a game, you tell the Admin. team and the person your're playing-otherwise it will count as a forfeit
However it was not just the extra rules that makes the UberTrophy different to what it was when it first started. Changes to the actual layout of the tournament have differed hugely to when the UberTrophu first began.
Firstly, For the second and third tournaments, there were two groups, with four teams in each, with the top two teams from each group going through. However, for the forth UberTrophy, it has been proposed that just one big group, with eight teams in and the to four of these teams going through, should be imlemented.
The next UberTrophy will also see the arrival of cash prizes. Each teams that enters has the chance to win a large, albeit undiclosed, prize if they win the tournament.
Hockey Bear and Hockey Penguin
In January 2009, two big additions to the UberTrophy website were added. The first, was a question page, were any question could be asked about ice-hockey, and it would be answered by a avatar named Hockey-Bear. With the tag line "Can You Beat the Bear?" Hockey bear became an instant hit, with over 25 question asked within an hour on his optimum day.
The second addition was Hockey Penguin. Like Hockey Bear, Hockey Penguin promised to answer any question related to Ice-Hockey. However, while Hockey Bear dealt with the technical side of the game, Hockey Penguin became more of an agony aunt, dealing much more with the phycological strains of playing in the UberTrophy.

Controversy
On Friday January 9th, Tim Noble, founder of the UberTrophy, decided to take a "small break" from the editing UberTrophy website, after over twenty what he called "Inane questions" where asked within a day on the Hockey Bear page on the UberTrophy website.
When asked about his decision to leave Tim Noble said he was "Disapointed, it's a shame, I've spent quite a bit of time on this page and to see it go like this, is to put it mildly, annoying."
