Troy Lee

Troy Michael Lee (January 27, 1961 - present) is an internationally known helmet painter and designer.
Lee commenced business as a designer of motocross helmets, later including bicycle helmet design. He started his own helmet painting business in 1981, called Troy Lee Designs out of Corona, California. In 2011, Lee opened up a second store in his residing hometown of Laguna Beach, California. 35 years later, the entrepreneur continues to paint helmets as well as having his own casual line, and active gear for motorcycles and bicycles.
Lee also started his own race team in 2004. His team began in Supermoto racing and now competes in the elite AMA Supercross Championship race series as well as the National Motocross race series. His team today is sponsored and supplied by KTM.
Early life
Troy Michael Lee was born on January 27, 1961 in Pasadena, California by his mother Linda, and father Larry. His father was a sign painter and his grandfather raced cars. That was where he became intrigued with art and speed.
Career
Over the years, Lee has painted helmets for some of the world's best athletes. Some include Brian Lopes, Jeremy McGrath, Patrick Dempsey, Peter Fonda, Danica Patrick, and Aaron Gwin. and Indianapolis 500 drivers including Juan Pablo Montoya.
Before his main career as an owner, artist and designer, Lee pursued his passion of becoming a professional motorcycle racer. Some of his friends and competitors like, , and Ricky Johnson became his first customers. After falling short of making a living in racing, the crafter focused his efforts towards his weekday job of welding motors for Mitch Payton, at Pro Circuit Motorsports, and painting helmets in his garage.
Personal life
Lee is married to his wife Sarah and has four kids, Carly, Max, Maya and Dylan. He resides in the art town of Laguna Beach, California. Lee and his family spend several vacations throughout the summer and winter seasons in Northern California's hotspot for mountain biking and skiing, Mammoth, California.
Some of his good friends include, Peter Fonda, Bruce Brown, Chad McQueen, , Ricky Johnson, Lyle Lovett, and Kyle Washington.
