Transun Travel Ltd.

Transun Travel Ltd. is an independent, specialist tour operator. They operate travel experiences to destinations throughout Europe and further afield and offer holidays to less commercialised destinations including Lapland.
Transun pioneered ‘day break’ holidays in the 1990s and were one of the first UK operators to encourage travel to the Balkans after the Yugoslav Wars.
They have been in operation since 1982.
Transun Travel is ABTA and ATOL bonded.
Transun offices are currently based in Oxford, UK.
Post Yugoslav War Travel to the Balkans
After the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s ended, the new sovereign territories faced massive economic disruption and a challenge to start attracting tourists again. Transun Travel actively promoted travel to the Balkan region (specifically Croatia and Slovenia) after the conflict ended.

Transun was one of many tour operators who criticised the Croatia National Tourist Office for failing to provide adequate promotional support:
Former Transun director John Healey said "We have spent £750,000 on promoting Croatia to customers over the past two-and-a-half years without a single penny from the tourist board. On our own it is an uphill struggle," said Healey.
Transun’s marketing strategy, which highlighted the long central European heritage of the destination, has been widely discussed in academic studies of tourism in the region.
Day Breaks
Transun Travel pioneered a day break programme from the 90s onwards that flew as far afield as St Petersburg, Cairo and Marrakech, all for just a day.
History
In 1982 Transun Travel was founded and worked out of a small office in Oxford. Their first specialty was travel to Yugoslavia; arranging short breaks to destinations on the Dalmatian Coast.
In the 1980s Transun became the first UK tour operator to fly day breaks out of Aberdeen airport and the first flights from Norwich to New York.
In the 1990s Transun pioneered 'day break' holidays. This involves flying customers to destinations including Rome, Venice, Iceland, Cairo and St. Petersburg for a specific experience before flying back afterwards.

Also in the 1990s Transun opened their premises in central Oxford and a sales office in the north of England.
Transun also launched programmes to Egypt and from Inverness in 2000.
Transun Travel now specialises in travel experiences, such as whale watching, Santa-themed trips to Lapland and to see the Northern Lights.
Charity Work
Transun has had a long partnership with the Joshua Foundation, an organisation that provides holidays and other opportunities to sick and terminally ill children.
In 2011 Transun Travel took part in the ITV Text Santa appeal by offering a ‘trip of a lifetime’ to three families with children with special needs. The families were flown to Lapland.
