Trademark Classes

In order to register a trademark the user needs to specify the products and services that will be associated to his trademark.

There is a system that most of the countries in the world have adopted, called International (Nice) Classification; in this system, products and services associated with trademarks are grouped into 45 different classes (34 for products and 11 for services). For example, class 1 includes “Chemicals used in industry, science and photography, as well as in agriculture, horticulture and forestry...”.

It is important to note that the protection of a registered trademark covers only the classes specified at the time of registration.
