Warm Showers

The Warm Showers list is a network of bicyclists who offer accommodation to
touring cyclists around the world.

History

Hosting of traveling bicyclists was started in the 1970's,
with multiple countries having their own listing.

I borrowed the idea from the LAB after
doing a cross-country trip. I was very
grateful for people who offered me a place
to stay from the LAB hospitality guide and
from people I met along the way so I wanted
to return the favor myself. I had spent
considerable time reading stuff from r.b.*
that I thought that would be a good source
of people to work with.

I believe there were two of us that started
it about the same time. I don't remember who
the other person was. I think I 'advertised'
more than the other person did.

In 1996, administration of the Warm Showers network moved to Canada with
links to other networks around the world. There are now (as of
2008) around 5000 members.

Functioning

In order to use the network one needs to be a registered member of the Warmshowers list.

Membership is free.
