Todoyu

This article is about todoyu, a web-based project-management software, currently in alpha state.
todoyu is an extendable open-source project- and task-management system.
It is geared to the needs of SME's, tailored to project-related work and suitable for agencies, consultants, architects or lawyers. Likewise, it is suitable for use in project teams of mid-sized corporations.
Users who can benefit from the capabilities of todoyu are Executive Managers, Project Managers, Resource Managers, Financial Managers and general Team Members.
License
todoyu is freely downloadable open source software, published under the GNU General Public License, version 2, there are several open source third-party libraries being used.
Development
Currently (October 2009) todoyu is in alpha-state. Version updates are released continuously via the public Subversion (SVN) repository of todoyu. Additionally there's a weekly update of the download package on sourceforge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/todoyu/).

todoyu is structured into the following functional sections:
Portal
The Portal is the central entry area of the todoyu project- and task-management system.
Over here all issues of current interest are being summarized (tasks, open comments / requested communication feedbacks, appoinmments, etc.). Additionaly user-defined filters can be installed to show individually relevant matters.
Projects
In the Projects section all project related data can be created, edited and reviewed. This includes project related tasks, communication, timetracks, file assets and more.
Over here particular project-related filters alleviate the overview over projects and their tasks.
Planning
The Planning section focuses on calendaric time- and appointment- management. Specific filters help with administration of issues at hand.
Search
The Search section offers possibilities for individual task- and project-related filtering. Filtersets being created over here, can be used to facilitate the work process in the other sections of todoyu.
Contacts
The Contacts section of todoyu offers management functions of project related contacts.
Panelwidgets
Over all sections of todoyu, so called panelwidgets can be installed. These are tool-widgets extending the features of the todoyu main system. The current range of available panelwidgets includes filters, task bookmarks, creation wizards, navigational tools like a calendar-navigator and more.

todoyu API
A todoyu API, created by snowflake productions GmbH, allows developers to extend todoyu with their own user-defined modules.
todoyu is developed using the PHP programming language, JavaScript scripting language and MySQL database management system.
Distribution
There is a downloadable version from sourceforge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/todoyu/) and from the todoyu website (http://www.todoyu.com/en/download/).
Furthermore a Software-as-a-Service solution (SaaS) is planned for commercial publication.
